Abstract

The framework text of this publication-based dissertation deals with the development of universities into lifelong learning providers and formulates the central initial theses that the implementation of academic continuing education at universities represents a consistent step towards opening up universities to new target groups and with regard to the requirements of lifelong learning. The more universities are willing and able to integrate academic continuing education into higher-level education management, i.e. into strategic control and design action, the better this will succeed* (Lockstedt et al. 2022, p. 31). Based on this, the framework text explores the question of which organizational processes, actions and action orientations can be identified at different levels in education management and from a systems theorie perspektive for academic continuing education at universities. To this end, the organisational structures, processes and control mechanisms of academic continuing education at universities were systematically analysed and embedded in theoretical framework.
