In conclusion our studies are presenting the long-term findings of a large cohort after acute ischemic stroke treated with either thrombolysis and / or EVT. We analysed the functional outcome via mRS and the quality of life via PROMs using the EQ-5D-5L and the EQ-VAS to get an overall view of the patients status in different domains in life.
In the thrombolysis group the most important predictors of an excellent to good long- term outcome and excellent quality of life 2.5 years after stroke were younger age, lower NIHSS, and event to door time ≤ 2 hours. An average score of 1 in all dimensions of the EQ-5D-5L and an average EQ-VAS of 70 showed a good general quality of life and a good general health status of this population. In the EVT group independent predictors for a good long-term outcome were age below 70, lower NIHSS on admission, NIHSS at 24 hours post EVT ≤ 10, and complete recanalization. Furthermore, an association between functional impairment and health-related quality of life especially in the dimensions, activity, self-care and usual activities could be shown.
The presented studies prove that research on long-term outcome over more than two years are of utmost importance as it has the ability to reveal the patient true functional outcome and quality of life over time. In addition, they provide information on the status of independence and self-esteem. And enable the identification of patients who would profit from a targeted medical and therapeutical care and psychological support. Although quality of life came into focus and our study could contribute to this current topic, further studies will be very useful to offer a best possible rehabilitation and therefore a good long-term quality of life.
