Abstract

The 10th century manuscripts created in the scriptorium of Corvey are main works of book illumination in the time of Otto the Great and Otto II. Perhaps the ornamentic templates are standing for the conncetion to the monastery of Corbie. A keyrole had in this case the Gospel Book Cim 2., which is kept in Prague today. Based on the richly illuminated Corvey manuscripts of the Herzog August Library, the question of the style-defining templates for Corvey and their implementation will be investigated in the lecture. It will have to be shown that these are not exclusively templates from the French-Saxon school and that the acceptance and conversion processes within the Corvey scriptorium can provide new aspects relating to localization issues (Northern France / Corvey).
