Abstract

Against the backdrop of a dramatic global situation with numerous wars, high militarization and massive human rights violations, in this chapter we provide a brief overview of the field of peace psychology, or psychological peace and conflict research. We also present the structure of the open-access Handbook of Peace Psychology and outline its principal sections – (1) Concepts and Contexts of Violence, (2) Concepts of Peace, as well as (3) Conflicts: Dynamics of Violence and Peace, further subdivided into the conflict phases of emergence, escalation, de-escalation, and reconstruction and prevention.
