Abstract
It is known that many cells are sensitive to
mechanical loading. They respond to it by inducing and
modulating biochemical pathways. One well established response
of osteoblasts is to increase their metabolism and
proliferation rate. In this work we investigated single, well
known members of the signal transduction pathway such as
activation of the proteins ERK1 and ERK2 in primary bovine
osteoblasts after mechanical stress and unter microgravity
conditions. The result shows a significant activation of ERK1
and ERK2 2-10 minutes post stretch and also a participation of
these proteins in the microgravity signaltransduction.
The
results of this work could help to understand intracellular
signalling pathways participating in mechanotransduction. Apart
from this, information could be gained to develop new
therapeutical drugs and training programs for patients
suffering osteoporosis or other bone diseases. It is known that many cells are sensitive to
