Abstract

For years there has been a controversial discussion about the appropriate therapy of femoral shaft fractures in childhood. If there is no compulsory local or general indication for an operative procedure, surgical and conservative therapy procedures are generally opposed. In addition to age, specific advantages and disadvantages of a procedure are also contributing to the indication. In addition, a procedure must also be assessed with regard to the long-term results to be expected later. In recent years, the elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN, syn .: PREVOT nailing) has become established as the operating method of choice. The prevalent procedures of plateosteosynthesis, the fixator external, are today either reserved for special indications or no longer a method of choice. This study therefore provides a comparison of postoperative growth phenomena between the current ESIN and the conservative and operative procedures of the time.
