Abstract

The goal of this study was to evaluate the contribution of leptin to the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis. The leptin level showed a significant correlation with the grade of cartilage destruction and a high-significant correlation with the BMI (body mass index) and the female sex. It could be shown that leptin does not have influence on the secretion, neither from MMPs nor from TIMPs by synovial fibroblasts in vitro
