Abstract

The study presented here outlines a concept of quality control in adult education. Both, the theoretic approach and the field study focus on professional development in a corporate context. Nevertheless, the theory yields findings that can be applied to general learning processes. The central aspect of the study is the design of an effective, and ultimately sustainable, learning process. This is based on the idea that successful learning can only be regarded as a factor for success, if the result – the training program – is sustainable and efficient. After discussing the process of learning and related control systems the author develops options on transferring business-related performance measurements and describes existing concepts of learning measurements. This allows making a selection for the concept to be developed, which will be applied to the corporation in which the field study is conducted. Next, a general concept of learning measurements in a corporate context will be designed. The theoretical analysis deals with the options for controlling learning processes, the learning of organizations, the learning process of individuals, and the area of learning cultures in corporations. The field study deals with the introduction of learning measurements in an international, medium-sized business. Its focus is on the design of the learning process in order to transfer the findings of the theoretical analysis to the practical experience throughout the implementation. The necessary interventions are being applied and evaluated step by step.
