Abstract

Connexins are of great importance during the early development of the embryo. These proteins form intramembranous tunnel half channels, connexons, between two adjacent cells, allowing direct contact information. This is necessary particularly during ontogenesis, so that the various tissues and organs of the animal are formed as a controlled and coordinated result. Regarding that a tissue contains different cells of varying differentiation level, a varying intensity and quality of connexin expression can be expected.
