Abstract

The Study of the ENT-Department of the University Marburg investigates the influence of the origin of hearing loss on the health related quality of life. Therefore one hundred patients were divided in four groups with different origin of the hearing loss (sudden hearing loss, chron otitis media, otoscerosis and M. Menière) by using the objective clinical examination. Additional the patients were interrogated with the new invented questionnaire to describe the quality of life in eldery people (FELAS) to archive data on quality of life in loss of communication, activity an emotional stability. By using the Königsteiner Richtlinien the degree of hearing loss was determined. In a first step a ANOVA was performed to show differences between the four groups concerning the loss of communication, activity and emotional stability. No differences were found. The origin of hearing loss seems not be a reason for a different estimation of objective quality of life. In a second step a Spearman-Brown correlation showed only mild correlation between the degree of hearing loss determined by the objective clinical examination and the subjective results of the FELAS questionnaire. Therefore a estimation of the quality of life by using the objective results of a clinical examination only can not be valid.
