Cryptochrome 3 of Arabidopsis thaliana is a member of the DASH-Cryptochrome Family. In this thesis the expression pattern and protein content of cry3 in different tissues was investigated to obtain basic knowledge about the currently unknown function of cry. Furhtermore, the localization in chloroplasts was shown in transgenic plants, overexpressing cry3. The mature protein is transported into chloroplasts and mitochondria. Therefore, transgenic plants were generated, in which cry3 is imported only in one of these organelles. A possible light effect of the chloroplast targeting could not been shown. Furthermore, a to-date for the DASH-cryptochromes unknown nucleus-localization was shown for cry3.
