Aim: To evaluate the functional outcomes after macula hole surgery with peeling of the internal limiting membrane (ILM) with or without indocyanine green (ICG).
Design: retrospevtive study
Methods: 91 patients (91 eyes)with stage 2,3 or 4 idiopathic macular holes that underwent maculahole repair during the period of october 1997 to october 2003
Intervention: All eyes underwent a pars plana vitrectomy, including peeling of the posterior cortical hyaloid and the ILM. In 45 eyes was indocyanine green dye (0,5%) used to assist in the visualization of the ILM.
Results: Visual acuity improved by > or =2 lines in 55 eyes (60,44%).Visual improvment of 1,56 lines in the ICG-group versus 2,72 lines in the non-ICG-group.
