Abstract

Our research is mainly focused on a longitudinal teaching course for students who are participating in a rural medicine quota at Philipps-University Marburg. As these students have volunteered for filling in understaffed positions in rural medicine in Hesse, we would like to prepare them for their work in the best way and tutor them through extracurricular courses and special teachings. We have conducted qualitative interviews with young doctors in training to become general practitioners and specialists of different topics, such as orthopaedics, surgery, urology, otorhinolaryngology and ophthalmology, to ask them about central factors needed for such a teaching curriculum. In total, we have interviewed 19 participants in ten single person and three group interviews and analysed them through qualitative analysis by Mayring. There was an array of different answers, and we recognised the possibility for dividing them into three main categories: topics, competences and course structures. We have collected and sorted these answers and recommend implementing them into the curriculum for rural doctors in Hesse.
