Abstract

In this work a range of new chelating aryl ligands found application in rare-earth metal (REM) chemistry. The main focus lied on the synthesis of thermally stable molecular compounds applicable as new precursors. The catalytic potential of the novel compounds in homogenous polymerization reactions was of particularly interest. In Chapter I new structural aspects of ortho-metallated benzylamine complexes of the rare-earth metals are discussed. Chapter II mainly deals with the ortho-metallation of triphenylphosphine oxide and its application in rare-earth metal chemistry. Additionally, some ortho-metallated imino- and sulfido(triphenyl)phosphoranes as possible ligands for homoleptic REM complexes were investigated. In Chapter III the synthesis and the molecular structures of homoleptic REM complexes with the ortho-metallated methylidene-(triphenyl)phosphorane are presented in detail. In Chapter IV the ortho-deprotonation of cyclopentadienylidene(triphenyl)phosphorane is presented for the first time in literature. Furthermore, its application in aryl dialkyle rare-earth metal complexes is described here. Chapter V deals with the application of the novel compounds in the homogenous polymerization of L,L-dilactide, ε-caprolactone as well as isoprene.
