Abstract
The Korean Churches were already in relationship with the organizational antecedents of the WCC, before it was officially founded in 1948. From Amsterdam 1948 to Porto Alegre 2006 were nine Assemblies. In the meantime, the relationship between the WCC and the Korean Churches developed.
Korean Christians tried initially to form a united Church in Korea. But because of the denominational influence from the U.S.A. did not realize the establishment of a united church in Korea. Instead, in 1924 the KNCC was founded.
Korean Churches were originally founded on a theological conservative basis. Since the 1950s the WCC met with resistance in Korea. In addition, split almost Korean Churches in various denominations.
At the outbreak of the Korean War, the WCC had unilaterally to the UN trust. Therefore, it came to criticism inside the WCC. From April 1951 the War-front was stabilized. The WCC supported the ceasefire agreement.
Until the 1980s South Korea was ruled dictatorial. From the mid-1960s, the progressive side of the Korean Churches have involved in the human rights and democratization in Korea. The secular theology and the Missio Dei-theology, which had strongly influenced the WCC, were introduced in Korea and supported theologically.
Until the 1960s anti-communism was the supreme political principle in South Korea. At that time supported the Korean Churches the anti-communism and aversion against North Korea. But from the early 1970s, South Korea tried to negotiate with North Korea. Since the second half of the 1990s, overcame the sunshine policy, Kim Dae-Jung, South Korea´s president, the tension between the two Koreas. From the early 1980s began the movement for reunification of the Korean Churches. The consultation Tosanso, who had held the CCIA of the WCC, was the occasion for this re-union movement.
