Abstract

Lung cancer is one of leading causes of cancer death in the world. Patients with similar stage of disease show differences in probabilities of survival. This illustrates the need to identify new prognostic factors that may help to optimize therapeutic efforts for each individual patient. The aim of this study was to document the incidence of p53, bcl-2, HER-2, HSP27, HSP60 and HSP70 in stage IIIA non-small cell lung carcinomas. We investigated 34 non-small lung cancers for prognostic factors overexpression by immunohistochemistry. Of the 34 NSCLC tissues studied, the presence of p53 was demonstrated in 16 of 34 (47,05 %), HER-2 in 3 of 30 (10 %), HSP27 in 29 of 34 (85,29 %), HSP60 in 21 of 34 (61,76 %) and HSP70 in 8 of 34 tissues (23,52 %). Noteworthy there was no clear overexpression of bcl-2 in any of the investigated tissues. Statistical comparison revealed no significant differences between protein overexpression and the patients clinical characteristics.
