The nature of the chemical bond in experimentally known zinc-rich transition metal compounds M(ZnR) (n = 8-12) is investigated. at first glance these molecules appear to be endohedral clusters but the bonding analyses show that the stability of the molecules is caused by large radial interactions which are typical for coordination compounds.
