Abstract
Within the scope of the present dissertation, a critical analysis on the conceptual sector, concerning the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, is being given. This mentioned analysis is dealing with the following questions:
• What exactly is “entrepreneurship”?
• How can “entrepreneurship” be registered?
• What kinds of explanations concerning “entrepreneurship” are being delivered?
Starting from the assumption of a basic explanation regarding the important terms of the dissertation, such as “entrepreneurship”, management and business formation, the important, valuable theories, respectively the basic approaches in the field of research are being cited. Entrepreneurship research, growth theory as well as the success factor analysis, represent the basic occupation with regard to the various appearances of entrepreneurship. The procedure model, deducted from the model of statistic perception and the typical phases of a researching process, frame the analysis of studies with international comparison to observe and explain “entrepreneurship”. Prior to this, a statistic overview of foundations and enterprises in Germany hereby is being assigned. In this context, the official statistics (business registration, sales tax, employment) are the most frequently utilized sources to compile the appropriate, corresponding rates. This basic approach is not sufficient to completely capture (the term of) “entrepreneurship”. On the international level, a survey of the relevant data sources among the evaluated area is being pointed. Corresponding to the different phases of the ongoing procedure of the dissertation, studies, comparable to the one of the GEM, are being opposed and analysed. One further important item is the connection between the appearance of entrepreneurship and the consequences on a macro-economical level. Based on the analysed theories and basic approaches, an extensive conception to locate entrepreneurship which combines several known theories is being declaimed. The origins of this conceptual model can be found in systems theory and evolutionary economics. A further important enrichment of the model of the GEM is the “typology of entrepreneurship” by Röpke. In a same way, a framework is being developed, to contentwise and geographically integrate the enriched model of the GEM. “Cross-bordering” entrepreneurship (international entrepreneurship) on one hand, and entrepreneurship in a variety of innovation systems on the other hand can be located within the model. With regard to the recited comprehension, the implications and policies for governments provided by the GEM are being qualified as well as minimized.
