Abstract

The development and characterization of permanently antibacterial materials based on cationic polyurethanes is described in this work. Possible applications for these kinds of materials can be found in the production of antibacterial textiles, e.g. for the medical sector. Different cationic polyurethanes were synthesized by alkylation of tertiary amino functions in the previously synthesized base polymer using different alkyl halides. Classic electrospinning from organic solution as well as latex electrospinning from aqueous media were employed to produce permanently antibacterial materials. Their antibacterial properties were characterized by microbiological testing methods.
