Abstract

In a randomized controlled trial we analyzed the influence of a perioperative analgesic therapy with Parecoxib/Valdecoxib and/or Paracetamol on outcome after breast surgery. 160 patients were randomized in a double blind manner to receive either Parecoxib/Valdecoxib, Paracetamol or the combination of both. The therapy was started intravenously and continued in a peroral way. Piritramid was used as rescue medication. We analyzed different aspects of patient satisfaction and quality of life (SF12 and PPP33-questionaire), opioid consumption and adverse events. All groups showed comparable high levels of patient satisfaction, low pain scores and opioid consumption. Differences in opioid consumption were regarded as non-significant; also there were no differences in adverse events. The combination of the Paracetamol and Parecoxib/Valdecoxib showed no advantage over the single substance use.
