Abstract

The purpose of this dissertation was to evaluate the relation of subpartual asphyxia to asphyxia - associated diseases and handicaps. The asphyxia - associated parameters (Apgar, CTG and Ombilical arterial - pH) being enregistered in the course of the perinatal clinical examination were assessed for their relation to aspyhxia - associated diseases and handicaps. The Apgar score can be seen as quite objective, on the other hand there are no significant relations to asphyxia - associated diseses / handicaps. Concering the lack of significance, the same rules for the CTG. When relating to asphyxia - associated handicaps, the ombilical arterial pH shows a highly significant relation which is augmented whilst performing a logistic regression with this parameter. In the case of a reduced ombilical arterial pH AND future handicaps, the number of exposed cases is very low (less than 10) which underlines the need for future enhanced studies. By the way, the doctoral thesis underlines the significant relation of tobacco consumption of the pregnant mother to future asphyxia - associate handicaps.
