This was a polymorphismanalysis of the four known canine MHC Class I genes with complete structure. DLA-88, -79, -12 and -64 showed different amounts of variation in their genesequence. I analysed only the first three exons of the sequence, because these also showed in humans and other species the most polymorphisms.
For the studies DNA from peripherel blood was extracted, with PCR amplified, cloned and sequenced. The analysis showed, that DLA-88 had the most polymorphisms. In 63 dogs 44 alleles were found. The other genes only had 2-4 alleles. Therefor it was postulated, that DLA-88 is a classic MHC Class Ia gene.
In the meantime a typing system was created from the results of this study, which is used in search of adequate donors and recipients for bonemarrow and stemcelltransplantations.
