Abstract

The paper discusses Kenneth J. Gergens essay The Ethnopsychology of Self-deception´. The psychologist Gergen argues that the concept of self- deception is merely a not convincing construct by Western culture which, nevertheless, serves different social functions. The paper refutes Gergens arguments and shows how his critical position can be seen as based on a moral motive.
