Methicillin-resistent staphylococcus aureus strains were investigate by two molecular typing methods, typing of protein A (spa) and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). Pulsed-field electrophoresis is known as goldstandard in typing MRSA strain. In the results typing of protein A (spa), which is supported by a new software (RidimStaph(R)), has got the same discriminatory power as pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. The advantage of spa-typing is less time for identification of MRSA-strains and the easier handling.
