Abstract

The new rap scene in Morocco has existed since the early 2000s. This developed rapidly over the years and after the Arab spring in the course of the Arab revolutions in early 2011. Rap is considered one of the pioneering scenes in the Maghreb region The thesis aims to contribute to current linguistics with regard to the language of the rap scene “Darija” in Morocco. The study investigates empirical findings on the phenomenon of rap texts, their linguistic characteristics and the main features of the rap scene in Morocco which can be viewed as a “global” and hybrid cultural phenomenon.
