It has been shown that neurotrophic factors are integral molecules of the immune system. Neurotrophins are not only produced by immune cells (CD4+-T-cells) und bone marrow stromal cells, they also exhibit cytokine-like funktions. In this work it could be demonstrated that neurotrophins have anti-apoptotic effects on CD4+-T-Cells and function as paracrine growth factors in B-cell development.
