Abstract
This population based cross-sectional study evaluated health related and general quality of life of patients with juvenile stroke.
The results of the data analysis are consistent with other studies that have been published about this subject. The quality of life is reduced in all areas. The least affected area is the domain environment.
In addition to that the results of this study underline the importance of treatment of post stroke depression. The influence of depression on quality of life after juvenile stroke has also been remarked in other studies.
Furthermore, the functional outcome, chronic pain and social support have a significant association with the quality of life after juvenile stroke.
An aspect that has not been investigated in other studies is resilience after stroke and its impact on quality of life. In this study it has been found out that more resilient patients have a significantly better quality of life than less resilient patients, because of that further research on this field is recommended.
Another reason that underlines the importance of that topic is that higher resilience leads to fewer symptoms of depression.
As quality of life is reduced in many ways and influenced by many factors, it is important to have a wholistic approach to post stroke treatment. The patient needs to receive an excellent physical treatment and the importance of a psychological rehabilitation is emphasized. Also, his social resources should be supported and used.
