The feasibility of analyzing school shootings via case-control studies is examined with encouraging results. Firearms suicides seem to depend on the prevalence of firearms in the population while there is very weak evidence for substitution between methods when firearms become more or less available from Austrian data. A result on 'the social costs of gun ownership' is found to be purely due to spurious regression results.
