Abstract

It is important to locate the anatomical right position of the hip center before the operation starts to implant the prothesis of the hip. If the prothesis is not located in the physiological position, the long term effort of the operation is endangered. The duration of life of the prothesis can be shortened. In this study we investigated the radiographs of 115 patients to determine the correct position of the hip center. Thereafter we compared the results of 6 methods from 4 different authors with regard of the transferability to our results. The anatomical landmarks from which the distance to the hip center has been measured have been the tear-figure and the ilio-ischial-line. We found that none of the authors had had exactly the same results than we did. Consequently none of the results from the authors can be taken over for another patient without any correction.
