Abstract

Anesthetic management for cardiovascular procedures is based on opiodes, sedatives andsinhalationagents (INH). Overdosage of INH will increase the risk of hemodynamic instability at the beginning and the end of the extracorporeal circulation (ECC). Underdosage in this situation may cause intraoperative awareness. Pharmakinetics of the INH, design and composition of the membrane oxygenator are of importance for the anesthetic management. This in-vitro study investigates the uptake and elimination of the INH Desflurane (DES) and Enflurane (ENF) by five different membrane oxygenators.
