Abstract

The secretion of ecdysteroids by endocrine cells can be visualized with the help of a reversed haemolytic plaque assay. We show that cells of ring glands isolated from blowfly larvae secrete ecdysteroids in vitro. Under the microsocope the endocrine activity of individual cells can be studied. When effectors of steroidogenesis are added the analysis of endocrine control systems is possible at the cellular level.
