Abstract
The floodplains along the Zwickauer and Vereinigte Mulde River are affected by recurrent flooding with heavy metal contamination. Because of the former uranium mining in the Erzgebirge, the river system carries a considerable cargo of the radioactive heavy metal uranium.
In this work, agriculturally cultivated fields, crops and surrounding fallow green areas were analysed for exposure to natural the radionuclides U-238 and U-234.
After radiochemical separation by extraktion chromatography of the collected samples and measurement by alpha spectrometry, transfer factors could be calculated.
