Abstract

Back Pain is one of the most frequent complaints and especially in the industrialized countries widespread. Often the pain becomes chronic. Due to the high relevance of education and instruction to self management, the development of effective measures for prevention and consulting advises is very important. Different studies already showed the effect of self management education. Among others the pamphlet “The Back Book” could show a shifting of attitude and beliefs of back pain patients. Regarding the possibilities of instructing and informing patients, concepts of cumputerized counselling have been investigated in some studies. The potential of multimedia such as sound, videos, photos and graphics, and an interactive system that interferes with the user, has proven to be feasible, low priced, and accepted by the users.
