Abstract

To analyze the prognostic impact of lymph node metastasis and the results of radical cystectomy 196 patients from 1993 to 2004 were evaluated in a retrospective study. 53 patient who were treated with radical cytectomy and pelvic lymphadenctomy and had postoperatively lymph node metastases were evaluated in regard to survival. In the univariate (p=0,0002) and multivariate (p=0,010) analysis extracapsular extension of LN metastases was the strongest prognostic factor. Other significant prognostic factors were lymphangiosis, dimension of metastatic nodes and tumor stage. The extracapsular extension is an important new clinical factor, this feature should be used to designate a separate pN category in the staging system and a standard for extension of pelvic lymphadenectomy.
