The mitotic spindle checkpoint represents a signal transduction pathway
that prevents the onset of anaphase until all chromosomes are properly aligned
on a metaphase plate. Partial inactivation of the mitotic spindle checkpoint
in tumor cells leads to resistance towards treatment with Taxol. Further
inactivation of the checkpoint by Gö6976 induces apotosis in Taxol
resistant cells. We identified the target of Gö6976 and characterized the
phenotypes induced by treatment with Gö6976.
