Abstract
The results of this study show a negative impact of palatine covering dental prostheses on olfactory and gustatory abilities of their wearers. If these results are confirmed in further studies with a bigger numbers of participants, the development of alternatively designed dentures might contribute to an improved quality of life and health of those wearing them. Patients undergoing prothestic treatment should be advised to use more spices and alter their meals’ consistencies regularly in order to stimulate trigeminal receptors. Salt and sweeteners should be used restrictedly.
