How did the policy of imprisonment develop in Germany from the First World War to the construction of the Berlin Wall? On the one hand, this book analyzes the network of relationships between science and politics, from which the decisions on the direction of criminal policy emerged, and on the other hand, it deals with law and finance as media that transferred politics to everyday life. Using the example of how judicial and police detention are handled, it shows how the concept of the rule of law and the welfare state has changed in Germany over the course of 40 years.
