Abstract

The function of the surfactant proteins SP-A ans SP-D in modulation of chronic asthma are not completly examined. The aims of this study were to investigate further the interactions between SP-A and SP-D and type II pneumocytes using a murine model of chronic asthma. After challenging the animals different cytokine receptors - inflammatory and antiinflammatory ones - were detected by PCR and immunohistology. We found an upregulation of proinflammatory cytokine receptors in abscence of SP-D while these receptors were reduced in absence of SP-A.
