The task of this work was the synthesis of a novel pentacene, which exhibits a new substitution pattern. First, a synthetic route to substituted naphthalenes was developed. This buildung block was used to synthesize a variety of naphthalenes in a convergent manner. These were connected using palladium catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. The resulting compounds were used to carry out studies to close the central ring of the pentacene backbone.
