With the use of tripodal ligands, which coordinate tridentate to the Cu(I) center like a scorpionate ligand, a new approach has been pursued in this thesis in order to make rigid Cu(I) complexes. Since the photophysical properties of Cu(I) complexes with tripodal ligands have been only insufficiently investigated until now, the fundamental properties of this new emitter class is explored in detail in this work by using quantum chemical calculations and photophysical measurements.
