The Internet is one of the most interesting developments of the new information and communication technologies in the late 20th Century. These technologies, especially the Internet as the spearhead of this development, offer great opportunities for economic development, this also applies to rural areas. This work investigates using a telephone survey and the evaluation of two other surveys the state of Internet usage in two selected rural areas in northern and central Hessen and tried for the issue of digital divide, a solution with the help of regional development related to. The work includes a discussion of the various approaches to the digital divide and a comparison of Internet use in other rural regions. Target of the investigation are the actors and decision makers of regional development and economic development at the level of regions and areas, such as politicians, local government and planning authorities.
