Abstract

Critical sized bone defects are until now a challenge for treatment. In this study new types of PLGA/CaP - scaffolds were tested in a critical sized bone defect in a rabbit femur. For the first time Raman - spectroscopy was used to monitor scaffold degradation and to obtain qualitative readout of bone structure and architecture in the defect area. Additionally bone defects were also imaged by µ-CT, histology and X-rays.
