Abstract

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is one of the deadliest cancers with a low 5-year survival rate, poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Standard screening does not yet exist, so the identification of high-risk individuals (HRI) is becoming increasingly important. In this study, a detailed cancer and family history was taken from 156 PC-patients (IP) of the AdP e.V. In 15.4% of the IP, at least one confirmed PC was known in the family. This exceeds the values previously assumed in the literature. The siblings of the IP are significantly more likely to have PC (4.2%) than the rest of the family (p < 0.01). Further PC is to be expected in them. Siblings have not yet been taken into account for preventive examinations. No correlation was found between multiple cancers in PC patients and a positive family history of PC or an increased incidence of cancer in the VWS (p > 0.05 in each case). In families with multiple PC, significantly more cancers were found in the family (p < 0.01). Multiple PC in the family therefore also play a role in the evaluation of cancer risk. In addition, significantly more relatives in the first-degree family of PC patients have cancer than in other family-degrees (p < 0.01). In future, in addition to first-degree relatives, more attention should also be paid to siblings of people with PC. PC in the younger generations of the family will remain interesting to observe in the future.
