Abstract

In summary, the thesis indicates that patients with schizophrenia should be able to apply effective emotion regulation strategies (Study I), but the ability for emotion regulation seems to be impaired by insomnia (Study III). The thesis also indicates that negative symptoms go along with increased emotion regulation. If these results were replicable, they could have important implications for the cognitive behavioral therapy for patients with schizophrenia. The implications are discussed in the thesis. To sum up, dysfunctional emotion regulation seems to be an influencing potentially even causal factor for positive and negative symptoms in patients with schizophrenia. Therapy and research should pay more attention in effective emotion regulation and associated factors.
