Abstract

Since 2002 dexamethasone is applied to prevent postoperative nausea and vomiting. Within a case control study we analyzed whether dexamethasone applied in a single shot dose von 4-8 mg leads to an increased incidence of postoperative wound infections. In summary our study could not give an evidence that dexamethasone applied in a single shot dose does have negative effects on wound healing.
