Abstract

This empirical study is about the topic Learning Types and its evidence of language learning. The goal of the work is to determine in the context of language teaching the actual success of students by learning with previously determined Learning Types and against the in contrast to the Learning Type. The model, which is discussed in more detail in this work, was developed by Richard Riding and differs between a holistic vs. analytical organisation and a verbal vs. visual representation of information. Altogether, 33 Turkish adults participated in the undertaken investigations; all of which took part in different integration courses. The verbal vs. visual Learning Style should be developed by learning vocabulary and the analytic vs. holistic Learning Style by learning different teaching subjects of grammar. Thereby could be observed, that when foreign language learning was presented according to the Learning Type, a higher level of success was achieved as a kind of presentation that was in contrast to the Learning Type, even if learning with the opposite was by no means unsuccessful and in some cases not significantly worse. Furthermore success in learning with the type-fair presentation turns out for the dimension verbal vs. visually more clearly than for the analytic vs. holistic Dimension.
