Abstract

Three groups (N = 168) were examined in this randomized controlled study. Photovoice is a participatory photo interview method developed by Wang and Burris (1997). The method is said to have positive effects on human experience and behavior, such as an increase in self-disclosure and an improvement in emotion reporting (Brunsden & Goatcher, 2007; Özbay & Esen, 2023). Constructs of interest were collected at two measurement points using online questionnaires to investigate the effects of the Photovoice method. To calculate the results, the data were analyzed using simple linear regressions and one-factorial analyses of variance without repeated measures. In addition, a qualitative computer-assisted text analysis was carried out using LIWC-22. Contrary to the hypotheses put forward, there was no higher self-revelation in the PVG than in the other two groups. Similarly, no higher satisfaction with the Photovoice method could be demonstrated in people with higher extraversion or openness scores. Nevertheless, an important contribution was made to research into this promising method.
