This dataset contains scanning probe microscopy images, X-ray photoelectron spectra, X-ray absorption spectra, and associated data from the study of on-surface polymerization reactions. The dataset is split into several zip archives. Each zip archive contains a portion of the data and a readme file stating which program we used to process the data. The list of software requirements comprises Igor (https://www.wavemetrics.com/), Origin (https://www.originlab.com/), WSxM (https://wsxm.eu/download.html), and Gwyddion (https://gwyddion.net/). However, as a baseline requirement a copy of the free, open source software Gwyddion can be used to open .stp and .gwy files, and a simple text editor for .txt files.
